Once upon a time there was a social media manager for a small, local improv troupe tasked with coming up with themes for the November improv shows. He was merrily skimming the internet, looking for things that might resonate - when suddenly, he remembered - November is National Novel Writing Month.

In an instant, his whole world changed, and the theme was decided.

It’s finally time to lower the volume on that Alice Cooper track you’ve had blasting ever since June, because - alas for kids - it is about time to get back to school. Now, while we here at Improv Cape Cod don’t usually get a crowd filled with people using pencils, books, nor are our audiences often the recipients of teachers’ dirty looks, we DO believe in education.

That is to say - educating our audiences that yes, it is possible for a bunch of full grown adults make a room full of other full grown adults laugh at fart jokes!

Nothing can quite replace the glorious memories of that one fateful day in school when we were allowed to wear hats. The whole rest of the year, the “hat” was nothing more than the head covering of the juvenile delinquent. But for that ONE DAY, the schoolchildren were all allowed to wear our backwards Charlotte Hornets ballcap that, for some reason, we all had in 1993.

But as much as we cannot recreate that unbridled joy of childhood, and though we might spend the rest of our lives in that futile pursuit, what we CAN do is Hat Day Improv! We will be allowing our performers, who themselves haven’t matured a day since 1993, to wear their favorite hats, and we want YOU to, as well! More than just the second best song in Grease (1978) after “Greased Lightnin’”, summer nights are one of the best things about living and playing on the Cape. From beach bonfires, warm weather, the traffic from the hot day winding down, and getting to watch all the youthful fistfights outside of various bars on various main streets, night life on the Cape is the best!

But the one thing we offer that the bars don’t, apart from relative safety from getting into a physical altercation with someone born after Shrek came out, is improvised comedy! On Friday, June 21, 2024, Improv Cape Cod will be performing our Friday Night Improv! This “Summer Nights” show will feature shortform improv games like the ones you might see on Whose Line, filled with themes & suggestions centered around summer on Cape Cod.

This show, like all of our shows, is PG-13, although aside from the occasional innuendo that only grown-ups will pick up on, we very rarely ever go blue. Doors open at 6:30pm, show starts at 7pm.

While “dads” is not always a universal concept, Star Wars is explicitly a “universal” concept, so we figured - let’s celebrate both! Plus, since the concept of being a father is central to the plot of the now 44 years old movie, which we still choose not to spoil, we have merged both concepts in order to bring balance to the show.

Cape Cinema has been a staple of Cape Cod since 1930 - nearly one hundred years of being a destination locals can go to appreciate great cinema! You’d be hard pressed to find any fans of film on the Cape who haven’t seen at least one of their favorite movies here, and that’s not even accounting for all of the other many events and programs they’ve offered over the decades.

They’ve been there for us, and now they need a little bit of help to build momentum for their 2024 summer season! So come laugh at our silly improvised comedy, all with themes centering around cinema, and know that your ticket purchase will go into supporting this fine Cape Cod institution!
